HERE ARE PICTURES OF A NEEDLEBOOK I FOUND THIS WEEK IN A COLLECTION OF DOLLS THAT I PURCHASED TO PUT ON EBAY. I AM LISTING IT ON EBAY ALSO ON MONDAY NIGHT 14TH AT 7 PM LINDYS*LTD IS OUR SELLER'S NAME. BUT I WANT TO SHARE IT WITH ALL OF YOU, AS IT IS SO DIFFERENT. THIS NEEDLE HOLDER OR AS WE SOMETIMES CALL THEM NEEDLE BOOK IS QUITE DIFFERENT. IT IS MADE IN THE SHAPE OF A PERSON HOLDING ALL YOUR SEWING TOOLS.

SHE IS 8" TALL. AS YOU CAN SEE SHE IS HOLDING LOTS OF PINS IN HER DRESS, (SHE IS COMPLETELY MADE OF FELT). HER POCKET COULD HOLD YOUR THIMBLE AND SHE CAN HOLD YOUR SCISSORS BY STICKING THEM DOWN THE NECK OF HER DRESS! ON ONE HAD SHE HAS LOTS OF BUTTONS SECURED ON A LARGE SAFETY PIN AND ON THE OTHER A LARGE SAFETY PIN WILL HOLD MORE SAFETY PINS! HER LEGS ARE HOLDING SMALL SPOOLS OF THREAD AND IT CAN BE EASILY USED FROM THEM FOR YOUR MENDING!

SHE HAS BLACK HAIR IN BRAIDS AND TIED UP ON TOP THAT MAKES A HANGER TO HANG HER NEAR YOUR SEWING AREA OF IN THE LID OF YOUR SEWING BOX!

THIS IS REALLY VINTAGE! NEVER SEEN ONE LIKE THIS AND SHE IS DO CUTE. HER FACIAL FEATURES ARE EMBROIDERED. ENJOY HER, I HAVE FOR A FEW DAYS! AFTER ALL SHE IS A DOLL AS WELL AS A NEEDLE BOOK!

THIS WOULD MAKE SOMEONE VERY HAPPY FOR DISPLAY AMONG HER SEWING TOOLS. WE HAVE MANY COLLECTORS OF THOSE THINGS NOW! ENJOY! WHAT A MESS, BUT I CAN'T GET THE PICTURES WHERE I WANT THEM! SORRY.

SOME TIME BACK I MENTIONED THAT MY DAUGHTER AND I HAVE A SPACE IN AN ANTIQUE MALL -- CAROL'S PLACE! WE FEATURE COTTAGE STYLE AND SHABBY CHIC STYLE FURNITURE AND ALL THINGS OF HOME DECOR!

THIS PAST TWO WEEKS HAVE BEEN BUSY MAKING THINGS WITH BURLAP (WHICH IS REALLY A HOT ITEM RIGHT NOW IN THAT DECOR). HERE ARE PICTURES OF THE BURLAP PILLOWS WITH OFF/WHITE MUSLIN RUFFLES WITH STENCILS ALSO!

ALSO WE HAD FUN WITH THE NEW BLACKBOARD PAINT! SEVERAL COMPANIES MAKING IT NOW EITHER BY THE PINT OR QUART OR SPRAY CANS. THE MAN AT THE PAINT STORE TOLD US NOT TO BOTHER WITH THE SPRAY AS IT LEAVES BUBBLES ETC. AND PAINTING 2 COATS WITH A BRUSH LEAVES A NICE SMOOTH FINISH. SO.....

WE PAINTED THE CENTERS OF WHITE PLATES AND PIE PLATES AND WROTE ON THEM WITH CHALK "BOO!" AND "HAPPY HALLOWEEN", AND HAVE NOW CHANGED TO "HAPPY FALL" AND "HAPPY THANKSGIVING". FUN, FUN.

REMEMBER 'SPARKLE PLENTY' DICK TRACY'S BABY GIRL?

SPARKLE PLENTY WAS INTRODUCED AS A DOLL TO THE WORLD WHEN SHE WAS A STAR CHARACTER IN THE DICK TRACY COMIC STRIP IN LOTS OF YEARS GONE BY! I WAS FORTUNATE TO FIND THE DOLL LAST WEEK IN AN ANTIQUE MALL HERE IN WICHITA, KS. IDEAL DOLL COMPANY MADE HER IN ABOUT 1958-60. HER HEAD WAS HARD PLASTIC AND HER BODY WAS MADE OF 'MAGIC SKIN'.   THIS WAS THE DOLL WORLD'S FIRST ATTEMPT AT VINYL. IT WAS VERY SOFT, THE COLOR OF FLESH AND WAS STUFFED SO THAT IT FELT JUST LIKE A REAL BABY'S SKIN.

ALAS, OVER THE YEARS THE 'MAGIC SKIN' BEGAN TO FAIL. IT TURNED DARK AND IN TIME WAS COMPLETELY BLACK. THIS IS THE CONDITION THE DOLL I FOUND WAS IN. HER HEAD WAS PERFECT AS IT WAS HARD PLASTIC BUT HER BODY WAS BLACK ALL OVER. SHE HAD THE PERFECT 'YELLOW STRING HAIR' THAT SHE WAS MADE WITH AND IT STILL HUNG DOWN TO HER KNEES IN THE BACK!

I WAS ESTATIC! SHE IS NOT AN EASY FIND! I'M SURE MANY WERE TOSSED OUT AS THEIR BODIES BEGAN TO BLACKEN. I HAVE HAD ONE OF HER IN THE PAST, YEARS AGO WHEN WE HAD THE DOLL SHOP IN ALBUQUERQUE, NM. A CUSTOMER ACCUSED ME OF PUTTING A WHITE HEAD ON A BLACK BODY AND WAS VERY ADAMENT ABOUT IT.   I TRIED TO EXPLAIN BUT SHE STORMED OUT OF THE SHOP AND ALL WE OTHERS IN THE SHOP COULD DO WAS HAVE A BIG LAUGH ABOUT IT!

BACK TO MY PRESENT SPARKLE PLENTY - OF COURSE SHE WAS NAKED. SHE WAS TERRIBLY DIRTY, HER FACE MARKED WITH DIRT AND GRIME. HER HAIR WAS A DIRTY TANGLED MESS. I CLEANED HER ALL UP (WITH MY CAROL'S MIRACLE DOLL CLEANER, PLEASE EXCUSE THE ADV.) AND WASHED AND DETANGLED ALL HER LONG HAIR. THEN I DECIDED TO DRESS HER. I MADE A LOVELY WHITE BATISTE DRESS AND PANTIES WITH VINTAGE NARROW WHITE LACE TO TRIM IT - ALL BY HAND, NO MACHINE SEWING. I MADE LONG WHITE STOCKINGS FOR HER TO COVER THOSE POOR PITIFUL BLACK LEGS ALSO.   HERE ARE THE PICTURES OF HER TAKEN BEFORE I LISTED HER ON EBAY. THOUGHT YOU MIGHT ENJOY THIS LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY FROM A COMIC STRIP OR THE DOLL WORLD, AND THINK BACK IN TIME. I HAVE ENJOYED HER FOR A TIME, AND NOW SOMEONE ELSE HAS ALREADY DECIDED ON HER TOO ON EBAY.   BLESS HER HEART.   SHE MUST HAVE HAD A HARD LIFE. IT WAS VERY EVIDENT WHEN I FOUND HER!

THIS BLOCK BELONGS TO CATHY L. HER THEME WAS ST. PATRICK'S DAY AND I CHOSE HER BLOCK 'WEARING OF THE GREEN' TO WORK ON. IT WAS FUN, AS I COULD EMBELLISH THE PRINT OF THE BEAUTIFUL LADY WEARING A LARGE HAT AS WELL AS THE REST OF THE BLOCK. SHE ASKED FOR ONLY BLACK AND GREEN TO BE USED IN THE EMBELLISHMENTS.

RR to make a VALENTINE WALL HANGING

I am presently in a Round Robin in the CQI group. This is an 'anything goes' do your block RR. This means that we each make six 6" blocks and they get passed around between 6 of us. We each choose one block when the 6 blocks come to us from each person that we want to work on for that person. This is not always an easy task, as some of the blocks are just beautiful and it is hard to choose. Each person decides his own theme and I chose Valentine theme and my blocks will be made into a wall hanging when I receive them all back. I think I posted my naked blocks on this blog a few months back when this all started. Today, I have pictures of some of the blocks that the ladies have finished. I am looking forward to the day they all arrive back home! Here is one of the blocks finished by Ruby in my group. Beautiful work. I will have a lovely wall hanging someday!

I WAS IN AN "ORANGE RR" AT THE TIME AND WHEN I RECEIVED MY BLOCK BACK, I WANTED TO MAKE SOMETHING OF IT AND NOT JUST HAVE A BLOCK LAYING AROUND. I MADE THIS PUMPKIN OUT OF IT AND ENJOY IT EACH FALL.

I FINISHED RUBY'S BLOCK IN THIS RR AND HAVE SENT IT ON TODAY TO CATHY. ALSO SHE ASKED THAT WE EACH SHARE AND WORK THE 6TH BLOCK TOGETHER SO ALL SIX BLOCKS WILL BE FINISHED WHEN SHE RECEIVES THEM BACK. MY WORK ON THE 6TH BLOCK IS THE ROSE TRELLIS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BLOCK.

THIS RR IS TO DO WITH SEWING AND ALL THINGS ABOUT SEWING. RUBY PICKED SOME VERY CUTE MATERIALS TO PIECE HER BLOCKS WITH. I EMBELLISHED THE "NEEDLES AND PINS" WORDS, THE BLUE SPOOL OF THREAD, THE GOLD THIMBLE AND THE SEAM TREATMENTS WITH THE BLUE FLOWERS AND THE ONE AT THE TOP OF THE BLOCK TO BRING THE BLUE UP ONTO THE GREEN PART OF THE BLOCK. ALSO RUBY ADDED THE WHITE LACE WHEN SHE PIECED THE BLOCK. I ADDED MORE WHITE STITCHES ABOVE IT AND THEN PLACED THE BLUE BUTTONS ON IT. I TRIED TO EXTEND THE WHITE MORE ABOVE THE BUTTONS WITH STITCHING TO PARTIALLY COVER THE YELLOW TAPE MEASURE FABRIC. ALSO I STITCHED ON THE SILKY. IT IS A SWEET LITTLE GIRL SEWING FOR HER DOLLS. THEY ARE PARTIALLY HIDDEN UNDER THE LACE, BUT THEIR DRESSES AND FEATURES ARE BROUGHT OUT IN STITCHING ALSO. THIS WAS A FUN BLOCK TO WORK ON.

HERE IS THE 6TH BLOCK THAT WE WILL SHARE IN EMBELLISHING. I STITCHED THE ROSE TRELLIS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BLOCK. RUBY HAD A LARGE PIECE OF BEIGE LACE GOING DIAGONALLY UP THE SIDE AND IT JUST CALLED FOR A TRELLIS AND FLOWERS.

THIS WILL BE A FUN RR FOR ALL OF US, AS WE ALL ENJOY ANYTHING TO DO WITH SEWING OR USING THE TOOLS.

AS OF AUGUST 15, THE TRADITIONAL IS UNDER WAY! MANY OF US ARE EXCITED TO MAKE SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR OUR SEWING ROOMS OR OUR HOBBY IN GENERAL OF CRAZY QUILTING. I HAVE CHOSEN TO MAKE A COVER FOR MY SEWING MACHINE WHEN IT IS UP AND OUT FOR USE (WHICH IS ALWAYS THE CASE).

I HAVE A LITTLE EXTRA INTEREST IN MAKING THIS. I HAVE SAVED PICTURES OF MY FIRST GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER WHEN SHE WAS 13 MO. OLD THAT I TOOK AT MY HOME WHEN SHE WAS VISITING ME. AS ALWAYS I HAD SEWING AROUND MY CHAIR AND SHE LOVED TO PLAY WITH THE SPOOLS OF THREAD. THIS SPECIAL DAY, SHE CHOSE A LAVENDER SPOOL OF THREAD AND WAS QUITE TAKEN WITH IT. MIA MARIE BROWN WAS BORN APRIL 27, 2 YEARS AGO IN 2009. 4 YEARS AGO I MADE A WALL HANGING SIMILAR FOR HER OLDER SISTER, ADDISON. I WAS EXCITED RIGHT AWAY TO MAKE ONE FOR MIA, ONLY OF COURSE A LITTLE DIFFERENT. BOTH OF THEM HAVE MANY PICTURES OF THEM AND THE RELATIVES PRINTED OFF IN SILK AND EMBELLISHED AROUND ON THE WALL HANGINGS. ADDISON'S WAS MADE AS A SURPRISE, SO I CHOSE PICTURES FROM ONES ON MY COMPUTER THAT THE PARENTS SENT TO US. FOR THIS ONE, FOR MIA, I ASKED THEM TO CHOOSE THE PICTURES THEY WANTED ON IT AND SEND THEM TO ME. I THINK THEY CHOSE VERY WELL.

I WAS DELAYED FOR OVER A YEAR BECAUSE OF MY SHOULDER INJURY AND SURGERY. FINALLY TODAY, THE FINISHED WALL HANGING IS ON IT'S WAY TO THEM IN SPRING, TX. VIA MY OWN SON, (MIA'S GRANDPA) WHO IS GOING FOR A VISIT. WE ARE ALL EXCITED TO KNOW THEY HAVE IT. HERE ARE A LOT OF PICTURES I HAVE TAKEN OF IT. IT WAS MADE IN NINE BLOCKS, EACH 18". I EMBELLISHED ALL THE SEAMS BEFORE I SET THE BLOCKS TOGETHER. THEN I APPLIED THE PICTURES, AS I WANTED TO BE ABLE TO COVER SOME OF THE SEAMS WITH THEM TOO. I HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY SEEING THIS. HELLO! SO GLAD TO REPORT MY GOOD FORTUNE OF HEALTH!

I AM SO HAPPY TO SAY THAT I BELIEVE MY ARM IS ABOUT BACK TO ORIGINAL USE. IT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE THE ROTAR CUFF TEAR SURGERY ON 10/7/10 AND A LOT OF PHYSICAL THERAPY SINCE THEN. I EVEN HAD A SET BACK IN LATE MARCH AS I WAS THROUGH WITH THE PT AND THOUGHT I COULD DO MOST ANYTHING. I QUICKLY FOUND OUT THAT RAISING MY RECLINER WAS NOT ONE OF THOSE THINGS. IT SET ME BACK TO ANOTHER ROUND OF STEROIDS AND INJECTIONS IN BOTH THE FRONT OF MY SHOULDER AND BACK JUST 2 WEEKS APART. I WAS IN SO MUCH PAIN FOR ABOUT 5 WEEKS IN APRIL THAT I THOUGHT I HAD TORN IT LOOSE AND WOULD HAVE TO HAVE SURGERY AGAIN. I HONESTLY DIDN'T KNOW IF I COULD DO THAT.

BUT NOW AFTER THE INJECTIONS, I AM SO RELIEVED THAT I CAN USE MY ARM QUITE WELL. I STILL AM LIMITED ON HOW FAR UP I CAN REACH (LIKE YOUR DISHES ON SHELVES AND YOUR MEDICINE CABINET), BUT I QUICKLY USE MY LEFT ARM FOR THAT NOW. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR PRAYERS. I HAVE A BIRTHDAY LATER THIS MONTH AND IT IS THE BIG ONE --75! SO FOR ME MORE SURGERY WAS OUT OF THE QUESTION. I AM ENJOYING STITCHING NOW AND HAVE PICTURES TO SHOW OF SOME OF THE THINGS I HAVE MADE. MORE TO COME.

HOW I FEEL BEFORE MY FIRST CUP OF COFFEE!

I was asked the other day how I feel before my first coffee of the morning. I replied:

- My hair looks more warped than cheap fabric.

- My brain feels a couple of stitches short of a complete seam.

- My needle is out of thread.

- I’m a fat quarter short of yard.

- My scissor blades don’t move in unison.

- I couldn’t wind a thread bobbin without instructions.

- My movements are a few needles short of a packet.

- I feel as handy as iron-on-interfacing without a hot iron.

- I’m sure my diction is a pin short of a full pin cushion.

- My sewing machine wheel is turning but the needles blunt.

- My brain is a few feathers short of a complete quilt filling.

- My eyesight feels like two buttons short of a chocolate box full.

- My motor skills are not quite as sharp as rotary cutter.

Though I do have more intelligence than a 1914 sewing machine.

IT IS GREAT TO TYPE THAT HEADING FOR THIS POST.   I AM REALLY ENJOYING SOME BEAD STITCHIN ON SOME BLOCKS FOR THE WALL HANGING NOW.   I REALIZED I NEEDED SOME DIFFERENT AND MORE BEADS SO SHOPPED AT MY FAVORITE NEEDLEWORK STORE HERE AND FOUND SOME WONDERFUL BEAD LEAVES OF ALL SHAPES AND SIZES.   I WILL SO ENJOY USING THEM.

SEED BEEDS AND SOME A LITTLE LARGER WERE ON SPECIAL AT MICHAEL'S THIS PAST WEEK.   I HAVE ENJOYED 'SORTING' ALL MY PRESENT BEAD STASH AND ADDING THE NEW ONES AND NOW HAVE THEM ALL SORTED BY COLOR IN SEPARATE LARGE ZIP LOC BAGS.   I ALWAYS PUT THE FEW I AM USING ON A CLOTH OR IN A SMALL BOX SO I CAN EASILY PICK OUT THE ONES I WILL BE USING ON A PROJECT.   IT WILL MAKE MY PRESENT ONE MUCH EASIER TO FINISH.

I AM STILL IN PHYSICAL THERAPY FOR MY ARM. BUT IT IS DOING WELL, SO MAYBE NOT MUCH LONGER TO GET IT TO REACH IN FRONT OF ME!   THAT IS THE HARDEST! THEY DID EXTRA SURGERY TO THAT FRONT MUSCLE ON MY ARM AND IT IS REALLY TIGHT AND STUBBORN.

HOPE EVERYONE IS ENJOYING THE 'WINTER' FOR STITCHING.   WE ARE HOMEBOUND A LOT NOW, BOTH FROM SICKNESS, WEATHER, AND ONLY GOING OUT FOR DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENTS WHICH SEEM TOO MANY AND TOO CLOSE TOGETHER.   GETTING OLD IS NOT FOR SISSIES!

New Year's Eve 2010

Well, the Christmas decorations are all down and put away. Tom is starting a new 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle and I have been reading all the emails on my needlework daily digests. So many wonderful pictures to look at and blogs to click on -- I can lose myself and hours seem to get by me!

I am finally getting more use of my arm. I have been stitching some on my beaded blocks for the wall hanging and soon will be able to hold the camera and take some pictures and get them here on the blog. 1/2 pound is my limit right now and the camera weighs more than that! I don't have one of those itsy bitsy ones.

We have enjoyed the holidays. Escaped the snow storms, however we need the moisture so bad, that it would be worth it to have some. Hopefully moisture will return to our area soon. All the family is well and happy and we are THANKFUL for all. We are continuing to sell out our eBay inventory and seem to find things to list each week too. But we are cleaning out our rooms and that is good. We have some interest from folks about purchasing our business and the Carol's Miracle Doll Cleaner recipe and name, so we are looking forward to finalizing that. Too, we are planning to make a move to a smaller place, probably an apartment on one floor. We are neither in good health anymore and we must downsize and try to take good care of each other. I hope to enjoy more stitching time also. We look forward to waking up someday and wonder what to do that day???

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL OF YOU!    I hope to have some pictures to post in the next few days.   Tom put up our Christmas tree this week and it is beautiful!   Janet, my daughter helped decorate our home. She is such a good decorator and has good ideas.   Also we 3 really sorted out a lot of decorations to give away.   We have collected so many over the years and never use all of them.   Someone else may enjoy them!

I AM STITCHING SOME!! Now that is an answer to prayer and an early Christmas present to me from the Lord!   I still cannot sew on the sewing machine as that would be reaching forward and can't do that yet, but I can hold the work and use the needle and thread with my right hand and then pull out the project with my left hand after each stitch.   Slow, but at least I do enjoy passing the time with it.   I will also take some pictures of my work so far.   I have even worked on some UFO's !!   Had to order some nimo bead thread before I can continue on one of them. But have it now.   Ordered from Fusion Beads on the internet!. No minimum order and free shipping in the USA. Wonderful people to deal with!   Just found them by searching for Nimo Thread.

Hope you all are enjoying the preparations for the holidays.   We only buy for the little great grandchildren now and the rest of us just enjoy spending our time together, eating, playing games, etc. A wonderful family happy time.    Enjoy YOUR'S!!!!

My gift to you - here is a lucious cake for your holidays.

A REALLY, REALLY GOOD DUMP CAKE!!

Spray your 9" x 13" cake pan.

Drain about 1/2 of the juice off of a can of chunk pineapple! Cut into smaller pieces and put in pan with the remaining juice!

Spread a large can of Apple Pie Filling out all over the pineapple. Sprinkle with cinnamon and about 2 Tablespoons of Splenda (or sugar).

Spread a can of Cherry Pie filling out all over the apple pie filling.

Sprinkle a yellow cake mix all over the cherry pie filling. Be careful to not have any lumps, as you want it to bake evenly.

Cover the top with 1 1/2 cubes of butter or oleo cut into 1/4" slices.

Bake 375 degrees for 50 minutes to one hour! Cake should be browned some on the top and a toothpick come out clean when you test it.

Let it set for 15-20 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or cool whip! Ummmmmm Good!

THIS DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING!

This has been a blessed time of being with family yesterday and of course having Turkey and all the trimmings and many leftovers for today also.   Some of our family were missing as they were with other parts of the family in other cities, but we so enjoyed our day here at our daughter's home.

We had an extra blessing to rejoice and be thankful for also. My husband had not been feeling well at all in the last 2 weeks and ended up having a heart catherization on Tuesday.   Praise the Lord his heart is doing o.k. No problems with the old bypasses and stents, so now he is to have MRI on his neck soon to see if a pinched nerve is causing his pain and his arms to go numb. Scary!   He has lower back problems anyway, so this adds up for him.   We hope the future holds better things and pain free for him.

I am still at the physical therapist's office 2 times a week and still have my arm in a sling. Can't move it forward like to reach! I am doing well on range of motion upward they say.   The repair is such that the reaching forward thing may be a problem........  I just hope I can use it well in time with no pain. Right now, that isn't the case.   But I am blessed with help from my family for the things I can't do.   Getting old though.
I want to stitch! T.V. and jigsaw puzzles and some one handed cooking is my ritual.

Won't you all be glad when my arm heals and I can STITCH again ??? I am so ready! I have spent days with this laptop on my lap and have worked my blog over several times. Still waiting for one source to let me in to see what backgrounds they have! Ha.

Well, my jigsaw puzzle is waiting. There are just so many things you can do with one hand. Tom is even tired of what I can cook with one hand. Ha. I go to therapy again tomorrow and then to the Dr. on Wednesday - so hope he will think I have succeeded in enough therapy to let me do a little more with my arm. I have weeks of therapy ahead of me, I know that. But a little more diversion will help each day!

'Mom cooked every day and when Dad got home from work, we sat down together at the dining room table, and if I didn't like what she put on my plate I was allowed to sit there until I did like it.'

By this time, the kid was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn't tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table.But here are some other things I would have told him about my childhood if I figured his system could have handled it :

Some parents NEVER owned their own house, never wore Levis, never set foot on a golf course, never traveled out of the country or had a credit card. In their later years they had something called a revolving charge card The card was good only at Sears Roebuck. Or maybe it was Sears & Roebuck. Either way, there is no Roebuck anymore. Maybe he died.

My parents never drove me to soccer practice. This was mostly because we never had heard of soccer. I had a bicycle that weighed probably 50 pounds, and only had one speed, (slow)

We didn't have a television in our house until I was 19. It was, of course, black and white, and the station went off the air at midnight, after playing the national anthem and a poem about God; it came back on the air at about 6 a..m. And there was usually a locally produced news and farm show on, featuring local people.
I was 21 before I tasted my first pizza, it was called 'pizza pie.' When I bit into it, I burned the roof of my mouth and the cheese slid off, swung down, plastered itself against my chin and burned that, too. It's still the best pizza I ever had.. Pizzas were not delivered to our home But milk was

I never had a telephone in my room. The only phone in the house was in the living room and it was on a party line. Before you could dial, you had to listen and make sure some people you didn't know weren't already using the line.

.All newspapers were delivered by boys and all boys delivered newspapers --my brother delivered a newspaper, six days a week. It cost 7 cents a paper, of which he got to keep 2 cents. He had to get up at 6AM every morning. On Saturday, he had to collect the 42 cents from his customers. His favorite customers were the ones who gave him 50 cents and told him to keep the change. His least favorite customers were the ones who seemed to never be home on collection day.

Movie stars kissed with their mouths shut. At least, they did in the movies. There were no movie ratings because all movies were responsibly produced for everyone to enjoy viewing, without profanity or violence or most anything offensive.

My Dad is cleaning out my grandmother's house (she died in December) and he brought me an old Royal Crown Cola bottle. In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it.. I knew immediately what it was, but my daughter had no idea.. She thought they had tried to make it a salt shaker or something. I knew it as the bottle that sat on the end of the ironing board to 'sprinkle' clothes with because we didn't have steam irons. Man, I am old.

My "LADY" wall hanging.

This is a wall hanging about 28" square that I made some time ago. It is entirely Silk Ribbon Embroidery. The ribbon ruffles on her hat, bodice and skirt are silk ribbon. Her bodice and skirt are made of silk fabric appliquéd on by hand. I have been looking for an antique curved glass frame to frame her in. Someday.....
I enjoyed making this wall hanging completely of silk ribbon embroidery. The basis was an old transfer pattern from England that has been around the world, as I shared it with many to copy off. It would be fun to know if there are others finished???

WELL, TIME HAS HEALED SOME

I am gaining each day - I can now type but am not to reach my whole arm forward! Now, try laying your wrist on your computer and not moving your arm when you are reaching for the keys.   It took a little determination, but I am tired of those caps all the time!

I hope to be back to stitching soon. This has been a long dry spell.   Old movies on t.v. are already not so interesting as they used to be.   A jigsaw puzzle on the table is entertaining for while, but with only one hand to reach with!   Don't move that right arm!.    Physical therapy started this past week and is very limited yet. The extensive work to anchor the rotar cuff ends to the bone with screws is very 'iffy' and must grow and adhere before I will have good use of the arm.   Dr. could not stretch the ends to meet, so this was the next best thing.   Also, of course, age comes into play in that healing game.   So I must be a good girl!

I have enjoyed reading blogs and all the eye candy!   I have a lot of things ready to print off when I can get downstairs to my desk computer. But this laptop has been a savior for me stranded on this first floor of our home.   Until later, and hope to be stitching,

I'll be out for awhile

I fell and tore a rotar cuff about a month ago and I will have surgery Thursday the 7th. So will be off the computer for ??? long??? I hurt so bad now, that I dread this surgery, not so much the surgery itself but the getting over it and the physical therapy to follow. Most of all to have to be out of commission for so long.

I was preparing some sugar sacks for an auction on eBay today and in the 'box' I found this poem that I had save from some day gone by. I thought perhaps you ladies might enjoy this, since we all like those old and nostalgic things of the past in our crazy quilt world! Enjoy!

The Flour Sack - A Poem
When I was just a maiden fair,
Mama made our underwear;
With many kids and Dad's poor pay,
We had no fancy lingerie.
Monograms and fancy stitches
Did not adorn our Sunday britches;
Pantywaists that stood the test
Had 'Gold Medal' on my breast.
No lace or ruffles to enhance
Just 'Pride of Bloomington' on my pants.
One pair of panties beat them all,
For it had a scene I still recall-
Harvesters were gleaning wheat
Right across my little seat.
Rougher than a grizzly bear
Was my flour sack underwear.
Plain, not fancy and two feet wide

I must add that I never did actually have underwear made from these, however when I was in 4H Club in my early teens, 2 feed sacks (Chicken feed came in them) was the fabric that I made my apron and tea towel out of to put in the Fair! I received a blue ribbon on each of them too! I was estactic!

THINKING OF RETIRING!!

Oh, what a big subject to ponder. Both my husband and myself are not in good health anymore and it is getting to be more and more taxing on us to keep up with our hobby/job/income of selling on eBay. We made the decision this week to put a lot of our inventory on SALE in our eBay store. This won't happen overnight as we have over 1,000 items for sale all the time, but it is a good start and I must say we are thrilled with the success just this few days.

I am posting this on my blog as a lot of things are the type of things that my readers, my crazy quilt friends, and other stitchers also might be interested in. Busy Summer!

I can't believe our summer is over 1/2 gone.   However since we have had 109 and 108 degrees this past week and several more days in a row over 100 degrees, I can say I'm looking forward to cooler weather!

I am working on a wall hanging for my youngest great grandaughter and will have pictures of it when I finish it. I hope that is sometime soon. It will have about 30 pictures of her from the time she was born (actually) and up to her 1 yr. old Birthday. I have enjoyed working on it in the crazy quilt style. It is pieced in 9 large 14" blocks out of all pastel silky fabrics.   I have encrusted the seams and now will embellish a frame around each silk print of her when it is applied to the wall hanging.   So I have a considerable amount of work to do yet.   But what fun!   Of course then a border and binding it too.

I have enjoyed playing an organ that I purchased at an estate sale.   I had a similar one for years and it gave up about 3 years ago.   I didn't realize how much I missed just playing it, until I began to see them for sale again.   It is an older one, and not quite as versatile as my older one, but it is still enjoyable.

Sewing for eBay selling, cooking and cleaning (once in a while, ha!) keeps my life busy.   I am on my medication for Alzheimer's and am told by my family and doctors that they can see a great change for the better since taking it from February until now.   That is comforting.   I don't feel I am lacking in any phase of my daily routines yet.   Praise the Lord!

Well, the end of this Memorial weekend......

This has been a wonderful weekend for us. We have been right here in our comfortable home where we are so blessed. We thank the Lord daily for our shelter, food, and air conditioning! We can't ask for more.

Listing some things on eBay today, made me think of things to share with all of you. Now when I do this, I don't mean for you to buy these things. But when they are needlework of any kind, (most obtained from Estate Sales) the thought comes to mind to share the eye candy of them. I hope I can put the pictures UNDER this prose and not on top of it all. We'll see. Well, it is above here, but at least it is in the right area! This is needlepoint! Now I mean the whole thing! The frame is needlepoint, and all. Being Southwestern in theme, then the pictures in this window? frame are all of blooming cactus! It is beautifully done and so unusual! I hope someone with a SW theme likes it on eBay.

We went to 3 estate sales last week all in one day. Each one of them had many things that were handmade! Here is another -- fabulous! My adventure with needlepoint has been just filling in the spaces all over the background around a previously petit point design that was already there. As you can see this is far beyond that! Crewel?? stitches maybe also? I don't know much about that either. But there is a lot of detail on this one. That moon in the back ground sure shows off the owls. Perhaps an owl collector will find this one.

This next one is counted cross stitch. They are the De Graziia children - The Flower Boy and The Flower Girl - This is so exquisitely framed in a double frame with non glare glass. We learned that the person had been a school teacher and had to retire early because of losing her sight. So she spent her precious time doing all the needlework she could in the time she had left to have sight. She is gone now, and the family held her estate sale. Many more beautiful things there also!

This 'Chair of Flowers' is another one that is loaded with work. Beautiful detail as many things (flowers) are outlined and the veins in the leaves, and much more. I looked at it a long time before deciding what all to say about it in the listing. This took several hours and hours to make also.

This next one has oodles of color -- hope another lover of SW decor finds this one.

Hooray, it worked this time. Now if I can remember what I did! Ha.

Just one more. It is a lovely Winter scene. I had it sitting up against a stool in the living room for a few days until we got everything carried downstairs to take pictures etc. I continually noticed the colors and the depth I saw in it each time I looked at it. This is needlepoint A+++ as far as I'm concerned.

The other thing that was plentiful this past week was vintage hats! So I have several listed tonight. They seem to sell well. I don't know if they are worn, or just collected. But whatever, I enjoy the fact that others like what I do. Thanks for looking. We are listed on eBay as seller - Lindys*ltd - but remember I give you this to just enjoy what I do. This is a picture of vintage hat veiling. I had acquired this through the years and thought I would use it on doll hats. But I just couldn't make it look right on the NEW straw forms I have to use, so I put it on eBay. It was very well received and sold for a good amount of money! To think I had it in my drawers in my sewing room for years! Now to dig out some more gems. Ha.

The other pictures are more hats and I won't bore you with more right now. But I have fixed over 60 hats and am presently adding a few each week to eBay. This week I also have listed some vintage aprons that I found at an estate sale. I will post a few pictures of those also. They are on eBay right now.

A NEW LOOK FOR MY BLOG & CONTENTS

Seems I never get to any of my beloved CQ work anymore. I stay so busy getting things ready to sell on eBay. This brings to mind I have something to reveal to all of you who read my blog. Since I haven't posted often, I don't think many do.

I have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. I am in the early stages, but yes, the MRI showed the signs of why I have been pretty forgetful in the past few months. This all took place in November and December 09. In January I was put on Aricept medication. It has done a marvelous job! My husband and friends tell me that I am so much better than I was. Also, I was having lots of problems when I was on the computer (and with eBay sales that isn't good), well, now I am back on the beam at least most of the time!! I am very thankful for Aricept and my Doctors. My husband is so helpful and sweet to me. I know his encouragement is a big help also.

I am going to post a lot of pictures of things I have been making and selling on eBay. Since this diagnosis I am determined to really use up and clean out my sewing room. I want to do that before my girls have that job someday. It has paid off, as I started a shelf at a time. One shelf was all the hat forms for dolls that I had on hand. I have been decorating them and that will be what I have the most pictures of right now. I have plans for lots of the shelves -- Ha.

So long since I've even looked at my blog. Seems the time doesn't permit itself for me to even think of it. All my pictures are on my desk computer and I need to somehow move them to my laptop. ??

I want to start a new project for this winter to be able to pick up and work on when I have a few minutes. I'm still sewing most of the time on doll things for eBay, but it is a nice reprieve to have something ready to stitch that is CQ.

I am starting a new wall hanging of CQ. It is mostly Black and off white pieced blocks. Starting with 6 blocks that are 6" square. They will be heavily embroidered and beaded and then 2 or three rows of border of ruched materials and pleated trim. I will put pictures on my blog when it is a little farther down the line than it is now. Ha. I have made the 6 blocks and am beginning to embellish them. I think the one color I will add besides the black and off white is a dark teal blue. Oh, yes, some of the figured fabric in the blocks has gold in them. Not metallic, but a rich gold. My friend, Julie that has the Attic Heirlooms shop here in Wichita made a similar wall hanging to this, and I fell in love with it. It hangs in her shop and it is beautiful. I asked her if she was going to have a class with it being the thing to make, but she is not for now. She is quite busy since she reopened her shop in a more commercial section of town, but in an old area. So people are finding her now that didn't know she was in business before.

I will take pictures of the blocks and put them on next time. They will be more interesting with a little embellishment on them!

I have the t.v. on and am going to watch a movie or something and stitch. I turned on my laptop to find a stitch directory and looked at the email first. So now I'll get back to the stitches! The laptop has been such a boost for both of us as we have it up in our living room between our recliners and we can check out our eBay business more often now also.

I want to show you all the vintage 1/2 slip I put on eBay this week. I have had this for years and always thought I would cut it up and make beautiful doll clothing out of it for antique dolls. Today, I decided to just put it on eBay and see if someone else wants it instead of me! The crocheting is just beautiful that is insertion and around the hem also. Not a break in it. The skirt does have some yellow stains like old things get.

Since we all like to 'find' things like this I wanted to share it with all of you. Not so much to sell it from putting it on my blog, but I think it is interesting to see things like this that are verified vintage. Thanks for looking!

A necktie pillow made for a customer

I have made several necktie pillows lately. One customer sent the ties she wanted me to use and to be sure to show the 'duck' necktie center front. So I did. Another customer sent me neckties to use and 'Elmo' was to be featured on it. They were both well received and happy with their pillows.

The last picture is more of the necktie pillows that I made and will sell on eBay. When I was pieceing all of these, I just couldn't put it all away until I had several tops pieced. So now I have quite a selection.

Christmas pillow finished !!

This pillow is pieced from neckties that are Christmas designs. I had a lot of fun pieceing it in the fall of 2007 and did all the embellishing that winter into 2008. I finally put it all together as a pillow before Christmas this year. It is backed with black velvet. I may add some tassels ??? But haven't decided yet. I really enjoyed 'filling up' all the space with the embellishing.

I used almost every inch of the inside of the cabinet. The white drawers in the middle hold my beads and all my pink and blue cq stasch. The bottom doors show my books and magazines where I can finally get to them easily. I used a small box for each color of my thread, silk ribbon, etc. and put them on each side of the white drawers in the shelves. Now I can take out a 'color' that I want to use and find everything that I have in stock to use. This was a wonderful thing to accomplish also.

My China Cabinet turned into CQ closet!

I have made good use of my China Cabinet! I have a nice sewing room downstairs, but when I am finally doing anything with CQ or SRE I am upstairs and enjoy the TV at the same time. The things that were in my China Cabinet easily found a new home - (some left and went to eBay) LOL. My daughter helped me put lace curtains on the INSIDE of each glass panel. I gathered the top and bottom of each curtain and we used velcro that has a sticky side to mount them in the windows. They went in quickly! Now for more pictures of the finished closet!

My son has come to my rescue to fix up my blog. I so appreciate his time and I must say it is beautiful with all the pink and flowers in the background. There are some other things he has added like a map for all you that read it to click on and leave a message to me. The map will automatically post a pin in the location that you are reading from!! Then I can see where all my friends are on this whole earth! Thank you, Larry. I do appreciate your time on this. Larry is a pilot - Captain ! He is on the go most of the time, but does spend a lot of time in hotels all over the world waiting for his next assignment. So I gave him the needed information to get into my blog and spruce it up for me. He has done a wonderful thing for his mother.

We have had a couple of days of rain now, and wind also. The temperatures are dropping and the colors of autumn are stunning. Our maple trees in our backyard are tall enough to be seen over the roof of our home from the street. They are turning a brillant gold and then red now. Breathtaking! When we drive up the street with our mind set on pressing the button for our garage door to open, we see all of this. What a welcome sight no matter what our day has held before. I will try to get pictures right away and share them on my blog. Nature is the most blessed thing we have to soothe our minds in this busy world. Thank you, Lord for nature and also reminding us to enjoy it!!

I haven't posted for a long time, but I have sewed up a storm of doll clothing to sell on eBay. I have a new laptop and my pictures are all on my PC downstairs. So I can't even post those pictures here. I will get on that PC and get some posted.

I made 112 doll bonnets this summer! Mostly by hand. We have sold a bunch, but still plenty on eBay. Lately I have made complete outfits for dolls. They include dresses, slips, panties or pantaloons and sometimes socks to match the outfit. I am enjoying those as I can be creative however I want to. I did make some silk ribbon roses on the yoke of one style I made. I never make just one of anything, as I enjoy making things on the assembly line. It is so rewarding when I finish a lot of things instead of just one. They are a boost to our eBay inventory also as of course, they don't sell all at once.

I have made several tops for necktie pillows for Christmas gifts. I have done the hand embellishing on them also. Now I must make all the points to make the border and then put them together. I have even picked up several pillow forms at sales this summer. So now, all I need is time.

Hot summer - no posts lately

Well, I didn't realize it had been so long since I posted on this blog. But I have been busy with sewing. I have made over 100 lace bonnets for dolls lately in this past 2 or 3 weeks. I will post some pictures of them. There are several on eBay right now. They sell well. I bought a LOT of lace at an estate sale recently that spurred them on. Bonnets do sell well, and I never make just one of anything, so this project grew and grew. LOL But I would find another piece of lace that I hadn't used yet for a brim and it wouldn't be long until I found the other similar pieces in that same color to go with it. I have only had to purchase off/white ribbon for ties. Otherwise I had all the ribbon I needed on hand.

Well, I just realized that this laptop doesn't have the pictures on it, so I'll have to post them later from my desk top computer. Sorry.

I don't do well in the summer heat. As long as I stay in and don't have to go out, I do. Thank the Lord that our home is nice and cool. I feel sorry for the people living in the heat and working in it also. By for now,

I meant to add that these birthday gifts for them is the last thing I have made other than all my sewing for eBay. I didn't want to put these pictures on my blog until they received these, however I don't know if they look at my blog anyway. Then I really forgot about putting them on.

We have been very busy with eBay for which we are thankful. But all the sewing is doll related things. Lots of shoes, socks, underwear, etc. I'm looking forward to some crazyquilt stitching someday????

Both my girls Birthdays are in February, so they always get the same thing from us! This year I decided to give them some of my old, old, good jewelry. So I came up with the idea to make these pillows and put it on them.

I didn't know what to give each one, so I didn't mark the packages and just told them if they wanted to trade around that was fine with me.

They were very excited to open them. It is hard to come up with something for them now. I used to make victorian things for them, but now they have both redecorate their homes in the 'old world' style. So all I could do was make them the right colors!!

I found this sewing box, (I'll call it a box, as it isn't really a basket) some time ago at an estate sale. First I must tell you that I LOVE sewing baskets of any kind. It has become a joke in my family about Mother's sewing baskets! I use them too. I have them all supplied with the notions that might be needed and an ongoing project that I can work on. I can grab one if going away from home for any time at all, (even while I sit under the hair dryer at the beauty shop) and enjoy some time stitching.

But I found this one and decided since it is actually a box and not easy to carry around, I would sell it on eBay. So I listed it starting this evening for 1 week. Here are pictures of it that I want to share with all of you that enjoy sewing also.

I have changed styles and am now making velvet hats for antique dolls. Here are 2 that I listed on eBay today. I have more in the making. Oh, the first picture is another lace hat that was quick to make. Then the velvet ones. These are a little more work, as lots of hand sewing to finish them off, but they are fun! I'm using up some velvet (the stretchy kind) that I decided not to use with CQ. But it is perfect for the hats, as I can stretch it to fit whatever shape I want to.

I am trying to clean out and use up more out of my sewing room, as I have the goal in mind to have it all neat and orderly with eBay sewing fabrics & trims on one side and CQ on the other! So........... again, .............. we'll see!

CHRISTMAS DECOR I HAVE MADE

I am going to post some pictures of a wall hanging and a Christmas card holder (like a bell pull) that I made in 2005. I took pictures of these before we packed the Christmas things up after Christmas.

The wall hanging is about 28" square. I especially liked the way this is decorated on each corner with fans and of course embellished. There is a silk print in the center. It is embellished before adding it to the wall hanging.

The card holder is about 10" across (including the ruffle around the edge) and about 48" long. It has 3 pockets to hold the cards we receive. Above each pocket is a silk print of something to do with Christmas. There is crazyquilt style piecing on the pockets and embellished of course. a row of beads is part of the embellishment under each pocket.

Both items have thin layers of cotton fleece like fabric inside so they will hold up nice. This too was fun to make, and someday................ I want to make one for each of the children and grandchildren! Of course!

CRAZY QUILT STYLE VALENTINE DOOR DECOR

This heart is a wall or door decor item. The basis is crazy quilt flower prints. It is embellished with seam treatments as well as lots of beads. I don't know how well you will be able to see them. I mounted it on a cardboard heart and then finished it with a ruffle of burgundy lace and a rayon trim as well as the off/white vintage lace border all around the edge. In the center is a silk print and is bordered with ribbon over each corner like you wrap a package. It is about 14" tall and 9" across. Fun to make!! and quick!! It is hanging on my husband's mother's door at her assisted living apartment. She is enjoying it.

Wall hanging I made for Great Grandaughter

My newest GGD was born 8/23/07. She lives near Houston, Tx. Therefore we
have not actually seen her yet, but have enjoyed 100's of pictures from her
parents online.

I wanted to make something for her to have all her years to come. So I made
a 28" square wallhanging of pink silk fabric. I put 36 oval printed on silk
pictures of the first 3 months of her life, beginning when she was just
minutes old! I embellished around each picture with different pink trims, and
then did a feather stitch all inbetween the pictures. It is green and there are
pink beads flowering from each stitch. A ruffle of the same pink silk with
pink/green/offwhite cording is the frame all around. I made a booklet and
wrote who I am and that I made this for her. I am getting older, and I wanted
to document it, if she does or not ever get to know me.

I enjoyed making this very much. It took more hours than I could count, but
was so relaxing to make something like this for her. Great Grand Children
are such a blessing from God.

TUTORIAL - MAKING A PILLOW FROM NECKTIES

Upon posting a picture of the pillow made of neckties several asked me to write a tutorial about it. So I am posting it now on my blog. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, I'll be glad to help. It is a very easy pillow to make and yet quite different in that you can make it very masculine!! No fru fru for a man's pillow!!

TUTORIAL - MAKING A PILLOW FROM NECKTIES. By Carol Lindberg

Be sure your neckties are all clean and free from stains, or watch when you use them to cut around any stains that are permanent. Pull the long thread at the back and open the neckties up. Remove the filling, and then press them open flat. (I want to say that I did not remove the lining of the large point and the small point on the other end, as I used those for 'fringe' around the pillow to finish it.)

I cut a piece of muslin about 2" larger than my pillow form. (mine was 16" square). I began with a 5 sided piece of one of the neckties. I used the flip and sew method of piecing. My ties were all shades or figures with blue in them, as it was for my son. I tried to keep it masculine for him!

After piecing and covering the muslin, I used the chevron? stitch on all the seams in a blue thread. Again, I did this to keep it masculine. But it could be made with several colors of ties and colors of CQ stitches also.

The back was a plain piece of blue silk cut the same size as the muslin. Before putting the back on, I placed the ends of the neckties all around the edge of the front of the pillow to be stitched on with the machine. I lapped them over each one just a little, and since I happened to have 4 of the large ends I used one in the middle of each side and the smaller pieces lapped over to finish out each side to the corners. I think I did have to make about 3 of the smaller ones out of the necktie material, as I wanted the fringe to be the same as the fabric pieced on the front. Again, this is optional. I stitched these all four sides on the machine. Then I could put my back on and didn't have to worry about anything moving and the stitching was right there visable where I had stitched the fringe on, so I could stitch the back on and it covered the other stitching. I left one side open about 9 inches in the middle of the side.

Then you can turn it all right side out. I had to roll up the pillow form very tight to insert it in the small 9" opening, but was able to spread it out nicely once it was in there. I used more dacron that I stuffed in the corners and all around the edge of the pillow form to be sure it was all filled and even.

Then just blind stitch up the opening, and your pillow is finished.!! Really easy to do and quickly made. I'm sure I could make another one in less time too. You know the first one is always more time consuming as you are actually making yourself a pattern while you work.

Hope you enjoy making some. It was a hit with my son and the others too. He figured out right away that it was made of neckties from the points around the edge. Also, his favorite color is blue, so that was appealing to him also. Made this Mother feel very good!!!! I have made other things for the girls, and thought I should make something for him with his Mother's stitches on it.

The rest of the men in the family may well get a pillow next year made of neck ties! But I wanted my son to have the whole show this year with his. LOL

We have had a wonderful Christmas season. Hope all of you have also. I see that it has been quite some time since I have written in my blog, and I hope to do better now that time will not be so pressing.

We have 6" of snow on the ground and 2 more storms coming to bring "signaficant amounts" the weather man says, before this weekend! So if we are snowed in, maybe I will get caught up yet. I am anxious to take the time to read a lot of your blogs also about the holidays.

Melissa and Julia C. have given me nice instructions to help me develop my blog with more color etc. So I intend to get with it, and do that also.

Some 'special' dolls listed too! A darling Heubach boy doll, a sculpted (I think) lady doll reminds me of a China head, and some cute little Napco dolls of the month. These are also from my original collection.

Also listed some darling bonnets for dolls (especially antique baby dolls) as they are made out of old linens with lots of 'fru fru' on them. All vintage materials, even the ribbons.

TUTORIAL Making an apron from Hankies (1950's)

I remember when my Mother made aprons out of hankies like this. I will enjoy having any of you wanting to make them too.

This is a vintage pattern of a way to make a very pretty and dainty apron from only four hankies! I remember my mother making aprons like this for gifts. Now this was over 50 years ago!! It is still a beautiful apron.

Four hankerchiefs are needed to make each apron. My sample is made of 4 hankies all alike - each is 12" square. It could be made with different colored ones, and different sizes, whatever would be to your liking. The four hankies you choose should all be the same size.

The middle part of the apron is one complete hankie.

The sides are one hankie cut diagonally - and the flounce at the bottom is one hankie. The waist band and ties are made of the 4th hankie.

This picture shows the hankie that has been cut diagonally and used on each side.

However, the flounce should be sewn on to the bottom of the main hankie first, as the side triangular piece This next picture shows how the hankie for the flounce is cut and will fit onto the bottom of the main hankie in the center. Used in this way, this hankie makes the bottom of the front of the apron and lets the points of it and the point of the triangular side become the pointed hem across the bottom of the apron. Just use the very middle of the hankie (in this one it is the middle of the large flower. Please see the pictures.

Sew the flounce to the bottom of the main hankie. You will have 2 sides which fit perfectly onto the triangular side piece.

Cut the 4th hankie into the waistband and the ties. The waistband is 2 1/2" finished, so cut two pieces 3" wide. Sew them together to make on long strip. Sew the waistband strip to the main hankie making the seam in the strip to be at the center of the hankie. Fold it over and stitch it down to the back side.

Cut 2 more 3" strips from that last hankie. Hem the sides. Sew these ties to the ends of the waistband. Here is a picture of the back side - your apron is finished!!

PILLOW I AM MAKING FOR US FOR CHRISTMAS

Having all these neckties brings all kinds of ideas to me. So I pieced this pillow top and am in the process of embellishing it with any 5 minutes of time I can use!!! LOL It measures NOW - 27" x 13". However I intend to make it much larger with a border of ruched fabric all around the 4 sides that will be about 4" wide. Then I will add a 2" strip of fabric all around and then bind it with a ruffled binding. I will also put fringe of beads in each of those seams around the pillow.

I intend to use this in front of our fireplace that we don't use in the living room. It will be about the size of a bed pillow. Then I can remove the bed pillow to store it until Christmas time next year. We now have our flat screen t.v. sitting on an antique wooden box on legs and the top opens like a desk. So the pillow will look nice when it is placed tilted up in front of all that. Fun!

Some doll things I make

I make a lot of things for Chatty Cathy dolls which came out in the 60's. They had a pull string on the back of their neck and they talked when you pulled the string. Mattel made them. There are many collectors out there now for the Chatty dolls as they grew into a whole family of them. These red shoes (postively exactly like the originals) are made of red suede leather and went with the red/white dress with her red corduroy coat with the white fur collar. We have them for sale on eBay along with other things I make for Chatty. (The red shoes are new and will go on eBay on Monday night Nov. 19, 2007.

This is a small pillow about 9" x 6". I wanted to practice and make this motif for another project and decided to just go ahead and make a pillow out of the motif. Lots of french knots for flowers. Fun to make.

I have this pillow to give to my son, Larry, for Christmas. I have made many things for the girls and nothing with my CQ work on it for him. So I thought it would be proper to make something masculine for him and thus this pillow. I notice he likes Blue, so blue it is. I used parts of about 6 ties for it. The border is made of the points of the ties lapped over each other, with a large one in the middle of all 4 sides.

The first thing I did on my own was an 18" pieced block that I purchased from Attic Heirlooms. I had acquired several books by then, and I put everything on that block that was in any book I had! I wanted to learn all I could and quick!! Thus this busy, busy, pillow! LOL

Purse & Hussif

The hussif unfolds as you will see in the pictures but when folded up, it fits perfectly in the purse. Ladies in Victorian times carried their needlework with them as they had servants to do everything else! They visited and 'stitched' a lot.

The little thing hanging off the side of the purse is a tomato pin cushion that I covered with the dupioni silk to match!

This block is beautiful! I did not make the butterfly shown in the picture, but I did do the seam treatment and the gold rose with green leaves and then the gold seam treatment under it.

I am enjoying this RR very much. I have worked on 3 or 4 blocks, and have finished Leslie's block now. It will be in the mail tomorrow to Cheryl. I am posting pictures of it here on my blog and in the list emails also.

Wanted to check in tonight to say that I am enjoying working on a block for a Bead RR that I am participating in. I will put pictures on my blog when I have finished my work on it. The block is a beautiful one. It is a joy to work on it.

I am going to start another blog aside from this one. This one will stay for my crazy quilt and embellishing block and enjoy with all my friends involved in it. But I do so much sewing for dolls as we sell them on eBay, that I am going to have a blog for that, so as to not bore you with all those things also. I also think that it will be well for our business to have that blog available to our eBay customers so they can see all about us! Right now, I wouldn't want any to see my sewing room! LOL

I will be out tomorrow and maybe for much of the weekend. I hope all of you are enjoying the beautiful fall weather that we are having. The trees are turning color and there is a cool brisk breeze in the air.

Husband's birthday

Yesterday, October 18 was my husband's birthday (70) and he is bemoaning the fact! But I enjoyed teasing him a little as he always teases me. (I am a few months older than he is).

We celebrated by having 1/2 of a day of fun by getting eBay out of the way and then drove out of town to dinner. Really enjoyed ourselves. We never do that!

So I haven't stitched, haven't anything to show tonight. Perhaps tomorrow.................

Finally I believe FALL is here!

Several things have put me in the fall mood. I love this time of year. I am much too hot all summer, so now I can enjoy the coolness and the breeze, while everyone else is getting out their jackets and sweaters.

Here is a picture of my new fall decoration for my home. I was in an Orange block RR recently and I used it to make my pumpkin. I was able to cut 3 panels (6 total in pumpkin) out of the block and then used matching dupioni silk for the other 3. A little embellishing on the seams with orange Hannah silk ribbon, and a stem from the backyard finished it off!

This is another bead RR block, my second one to work on. I added the berries across the top left and the bead treatment above them. Also the irridescent flowers below it. And then the seam treatment vertical of blue beads. This is called 'cross stitch' in the bead book. First time I have done it, and it was fun, but my old stiff fingers had a time holding onto the beads!
